Anti-VEGF therapy is a modern treatment for retinal diseases. It is based on medications that block the action of a protein called vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). This protein stimulates the growth of new, fragile blood vessels that can leak fluid or blood into the tissues of the eye.
